Arthritis. Headaches. Gastrointestinal problems. Respiratory disorders.
These are some of the sicknesses that are commonly found in people with depression. Now we are learning that these illnesses may also be more likely to occur in people with anxiety disorders.
A recent Canadian study showed that over half of the participants who had an anxiety disorder also had some kind of physical illness (such as allergies, thyroid problems, or some respiratory condition).
The study showed that people who suffered from an anxiety disorder as well as a physical condition generally experienced a lower quality of life as compared to the people who only had a health issue or an anxiety disorder.
The results of the study indicate that anxiety disorders may be equally harmful to physical health as depression; they may even be more harmful, but more research is needed before a conclusive statement can be made.
