Eight years after getting into a bad car accident, a young woman says she has developed obsessive-compulsive disorder. To many people’s surprise, she was awarded 9 million dollars in court.
After the crash, one of the symptoms of OCD that started to show up in her behavior was a superstitious fear of certain numbers and objects. The former student also began to compulsively turn the lights on and off, among other strange behaviors.
There is one indication that the obsessive-compulsive additions to the young woman’s personality may be caused by a problem in the brain– she has experienced seizures since the accident.
With further research into OCD cases in adults and in children, the factors that trigger the disorder may become clearer.
