A panic attack on its own can be a terrifying experience. However, for patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as well, things can easily turn worse. Panic leads to short breath and coupled with COPD, such an attack can become lethal.
Many people with COPD suffer from panic attacks when they can’t catch their breath. In fact, the prevalence of panic disorder in COPD is approximately 10 times higher than it is in the general population.
The most important thing you can do to help with your panic attack management is to learn as much as you can about panic attacks, pay attention to your own panic attack symptoms, and make sure those around you understand that you suffer from panic disorder.
